Team discussion on an event
Coordinate in real time on an event: messages, mentions, reactions, and a bell to follow the discussion. Anything worth keeping is pinned as a note.
Updated
Every event has its team discussion: a thread of short, real-time messages to coordinate without leaving the event page. "The client is moving to 120 guests, do we keep the room?" gets asked and settled right there, next to the proposal and the BEO, instead of in a separate chat app.
The discussion complements notes. Notes keep what must last (client preferences, instructions, meeting reports). The discussion is for day-to-day coordination. Anything important said in the discussion can be pinned as a note in one click.
Open the discussion
- Open the event.
- Click "Discussion" in the header, next to the avatars of the people viewing the event. A purple counter shows the messages you haven't read.
- The discussion takes the place of the details column on the right, whatever tab is open: you keep the proposal or the BEO in view while you answer.
- To go back to the details, click "Discussion" again or the discussion's cross.
Write and mention a teammate
- Type your message in the field at the bottom of the discussion.
- Type @ followed by a teammate's name to mention them: they get a notification in Joinways and by email.
- Press Enter to send. Shift + Enter adds a new line.
Your message shows up right away. If it couldn't be sent (connection lost), it is marked "Not sent" with "Retry".
What you see in the discussion
- The team's messages, grouped by author and by day, with the time on hover.
- A "New messages" marker where you left off.
- "… is typing" when a teammate is answering.
- "Seen by" under the last message, with the members who read it.
- At the top, the members taking part in the discussion.
React, edit, pin
Hover over a message to show its actions.
- React: 👍 or ✅ in one click, or another reaction from the picker. Handy to say "seen" or "done" without adding a message.
- Pin as note: the message becomes a note of the event, with its author and date.
- Copy text.
- Edit or delete your own messages. An edited message shows "(edited)". After deleting, you have a few seconds to undo.
Tip: in an empty field, the ↑ key edits your last message.
Follow a discussion
The "Following" pill at the top of the discussion shows whether you are notified of new messages.
- You automatically follow the discussion of the events you own and of those where you wrote.
- Click "Follow" to be notified without having written, or "Following" to stop.
- Mentions always reach you, whether you follow the discussion or not.
Notifications
- Mention: a notification in Joinways and an email. The link opens the event with the discussion, on the message itself.
- New messages in a followed discussion: a single notification per event, updated with each message ("Claire and 2 others wrote in the discussion · 3 new messages"), in Joinways only.
- While the discussion is open on screen, its notifications are marked as read on their own.
You set these notifications in "Settings", "Notifications": rows "Mention (@)" and "Event discussion".
Special cases
- Archived event: the discussion stays readable but becomes read-only.
- Former member: their messages stay visible under "Former member".
- Client: the discussion is internal to the team and is never shown to the client, including through the event's public access.
FAQ
Can the client see the discussion? No. It is reserved for the members of your workspace.
How is it different from notes? Notes keep lasting information; the discussion is for coordination. Pin a message to turn it into a note.
Who is notified when I write? The members you mention, and those who follow the discussion.
Can I mute a discussion? Yes: click "Following" at the top of the discussion. For all discussions, turn off "Event discussion" in "Settings", "Notifications".
